Design Concept:
The artwork portrays the power of the earth's cyclic regeneration. It features concentric circles as its outline, with a persimmon tree growing upwards from the base. The surface of the concentric circles showcases shallow relief patterns reminiscent of Song dynasty water ripples, symbolizing waves of wealth and auspiciousness. The myriad forms of water ripples also contain Eastern philosophical views. The water forms organically and embraces and nurtures all. The harmony between the branches and water, two natural symbols, reflects the vitality of the persimmon tree as it grows upward, flourishing endlessly. What makes this piece charming is its portrayal of the natural growth state of persimmons, abundant fruits, and the beauty of natural growth. Although it appears effortlessly natural, it is actually a comprehensive three-dimensional sculpture that can only be achieved through the technique of pate de verre (lost wax casting), showcasing exquisite craftsmanship that includes intricate hollowing. |
