Design Description: This mini glass bowl artwork comes from the collection “the Four Gentlemen – Crystal Bowl,” which is an artistic motif dating back to the Song Dynasty. In this literary theme, the four seasons of the year are each represented by their most characteristic flower. As with winter, the titular flower of autumn is also one which blooms amidst decay and death. That flower—the chrysanthemum—bursts into life in amber and golden hues while all other flowers are fading and withering. In this way, it is both a bittersweet nostalgia and a reflective melancholy. The design in this work shows the exquisitely sculpted low-relief details of the many petals of a chrysanthemum flower in the warm glow of autumn. |
